What should I do before treatment?
Please arrive at the office no later than 10:00AM. In the event that you may require medication, it is required that you be dropped off and picked up after your procedure.
• You may wash your hair the morning of your surgery with your regular shampoo.
• Do not drink alcohol or caffeine the night before or the morning of your procedure.
• Eat a light breakfast prior to arriving for your procedure.
• Wear a button-down shirt or something easily removable.
• If medications were given to you by your physician prior to the procedure, please bring them with you on your procedure day.
• Upon your arrival to the practice, please complete your medical questionnaire and sign your consent forms.
• Speak with your physician about any medications you are currently taking.
• Prior to your surgery, avoid any supplements or medications that could cause blood thinning such as, asprin, Ibuprofen (Advil/Motrin) etc.
• Pre-operative photos will be taken for your chart only unless other arrangements have been made.
• Please consider what hairstyle you will wear for your procedure. The donor site will need to be trimmed down using a 1 or 0 guard.
• Smoking is strongly prohibited as this will delay your wound healing time.
• If you color your hair, it is recommended that you color your hair a few days before your procedure. After the procedure, you must wait 6-8 weeks before you can color your hair again and a semi-permanent color should be used instead of a permanent hair color that may cause damage to your new grafts. Permanent hair color can be used 3 months post op.
• Please feel free to ask as many questions as you like. We want you to be well informed.
What should I expect during treatment?
You may bring your own audiobooks or music as long as it is appropriate for everyone.
• At any time during the procedure you may get up for breaks, such as restroom breaks or a brief stretch.
• We will break for lunch if your procedure is scheduled for the entire day. Please discuss lunch arrangements with the practice staff prior to your procedure.
• Friends and family are not allowed in the surgery room when the procedure is being done, however, they will be allowed to visit and check on your progress. Having others in a surgery suite lends to a non-sterile environment.
Do I need to do anything post treatment?
Minimum downtime, ONLY natural looking results.
You will be given all required prescriptions, medications and detailed post-op instructions. Please follow these instructions carefully.
• Should you have any questions concerning any aspect of your procedure, please call the office at 03 9191 2333.
Some questions that are commonly asked. (Q/A)
-
Is Neograft Safe?
Yes, The NeoGraft Follicular Unit Extraction technology is TGA-approved and very safe. It is a relatively minor surgical procedure that can be performed under mild local anesthesia to numb the scalp. Therefore the risks associated with general anesthesia or even heavy sedation do not apply. The fact that FUE hair transplants are so easy and virtually pain-free is one reasons they have grown in popularity to rank among the most-performed cosmetic surgeries for men. -
Am I the right candiate for this treatment?
An ideal candidate for a hair transplant is in relatively good health with a healthy supply of hair in the donor area (typically the back of the scalp). This is the area generally not affected by male pattern baldness (except in rare cases). In addition, you are a good candidate for NeoGraft if you want to wear your hair short or would like to camouflage any scars from previous linear harvests. The best way to find out if you’re a good candidate for a hair transplant is to request a free quote.

What is the different Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) and Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT)?
Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) and Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT) are two modern hair transplant methods that have become very popular in the United States. There is less of a difference between the two than one might think. Both methods involve extracting hair from the “donor area” of a person’s scalp and implanting it in balding and/or thinning areas. The implantation process is virtually the same. But there is one major difference on the extraction side: With FUE, the hair is extracted in very small groupings from 1-4 follicles each, also called a graft. With FUT, the hair is harvested in a strip (hence, the “strip method”) that is then separated into the follicular units slated for implantation. The upside of FUT is that it can typically be achieved faster, but the downside is that it leaves behind a permanent linear scar in the donor area. FUE achieves the same density and coverage without a scar. -
When can I wash hair?
We recommend that you wait until Day 3 after your hair transplant before washing your hair. Please read our tips on how to wash you hair during the first week of recovery as well as our complete set of instructions for a successful hair transplant recovery. -
How long is the recovery period?
You should allow for a week to ten days of recovery after a NeoGraft hair transplant. Please note that this is not time spent in bed. Most patients are perfectly fine to pursue day-to-day activities within 1 or at most 2 days of their procedure. However, you can expect some swelling within the first week post-op, and it takes about 7-10 days for the small punctures of hair implantation to scab over and fall off. Once the scabs have fallen off, a hair transplant is typically undetectable. The growth in the new areas of transplantation will occur slowly following the natural growth cycle of your hair. -
How can I see the result?
More than any other procedure, hair transplants require patience. Because hair growth is slow, it will take time for your hair transplant to achieve its full effect. Results will vary person to person, but most of our patients have reported significant results within three to six months of treatment. Within a year, your transplanted hair follicles should be growing at a normal rate, letting you enjoy the full effects of the procedure. Read all about the timeline of hair growth after NeoGraft. -
How much does it cost?
The cost of your hair transplant will depend on the number of grafts you will need. Each graft can contain several hairs, which is an important distinction you need to consider when comparing prices. Our starting prices for hair transplants range from $5,900 (500 grafts) to $12,000 (1000 grafts).
